Well, the festival is over and the red carpets have been rolled up and sent to the cleaners… for those interested, check out my photos on Flickr:

So what’s next?
Well, number one is ENVIRONINJAS, my new project about Ninjas who protect the environment from Pirates and apathetic people and cyborgs and shit. We’ll be starting with some environinja-sketches as I do my final re-writes on the first “episode”.
I had plotted the entire thing out as I followed Unk’s screenwriting structure for features, but as the ideas grew, I found it better to chop-chop-chop it up into shorter 5-10min episodes. Each episode still kind of covers part of the “arc”, so after filming, we could either make 5-minute webisodes, 22-minute tv shows, or a 2 hour ninja epic depending on the footage shot! I really think it’s an interesting and challenging way to plan. By starting small (5min-webisodes) I make sure that there are interesting things going on in every five-minute block. In the end, if we decide to go all-out and make it a feature, at least it will sure to be action packed!
So that’s going on…
Number two, The Poke Show, which revs up again for “season 2″ in November. I’ve got three sketches just dying to be filmed, waiting to kick off the season strong before I get lazy and film myself being an idiot in front of a greenscreen again…
And finally, the post-production on “Canadian Show Pilot” is under way in Geoff W. Meech’s basement. Think Jackass meets the 48 Hour Film Contest. The basic premise- we get 48 hours to make a film, and spend each episode beating each other up and acting like immature idiots while the time ticks away. We’re going to be pitching it to CBC and Comedy Network once we’ve got the pilot done… if they don’t take it, we’ll just keep plugging away and putting it online until someone does throw money at us. Stay tuned.
But that’s it for now. Of course, I’ve got 3-4 feature script ideas that I’m working on, but I’m focusing on Ninjas and Pokes for the next little bit. TIFF was great and I made a lot of contacts… now we see if I can put those to good use!
I’ll wrap this post (and my blathering on about TIFF) with my most memorable moments from this year’s fest:
- Goudge getting me into the AFI Party where I met the senior programmers from the AFI Dallas and LA festivals, as well as some good folks from the Canadian Film Circuit.
- Trading cigarettes with a man from Turkey, who shortly after asked for my card and said he’ll try and get me into the Istanbul Film Festival(!)
- Paul Haggis bummed a light off me!
- I asked David Schwimmer if he was here to see a movie (I didn’t recognize him) and he said “Uh… I’m David Schwimmer” in a VERY “Ross” way. LOL.
- Sneaking into the VIP section at the opening night gala and being chased by security guards. I eluded them by grabbing a Stella and blending into the crowd, 007-style.
- Seeing a group of protesters clap and cheer for Michael Moore when he came.
- Smoking in front of those same protesters (who were protesting smoking in movies)
- The Gala of “No Country for Old Men” at the Elgin Theater
- The drunken, drunken, drunken Staff party. Amazing. I mean, I wish I remember how amazing it was.
Have a good afternoon, bitches!
