Tonight I went to a meeting/audition for a movie called “Bad Actors“; about, you guessed it, bad actors. Directed and written by Geo Cam, a professional cinematographer/photographer and creator of Giggleshorts. Pretty cool!
The meeting was interesting… Geo was full of advice and tips… for an audition, it was almost like a free filmmaking seminar. In any case, he expects professionalism and dedication from his actors, which I have no problem with. I wouldn’t want actors goofing off and showing up late if I was directing! Ironically, he’s really looking for GOOD actors and skipping rehearsal and asking for bad performances- which actually probably makes him a bad director, but since it fits into the theme of “bad movie”, I can’t help but think that it’s an intentional choice, and there’s a pretty smart mind behind all of this. I’m all about “cult classic” style films and I’ve got a good vibe on this one.
It’s a little vague how the casting process will go- it seems like a very experimental/improvisational project, which would probably be a lot of fun to work on. So I’ve emailed in my details and I hope I grab a role or two!

I would be contacting soap opera actors who are actual professional bad actors who would be “good” but perfectly bad for the film.

Yeah, they did end up contacting me after the audition for a “demo-shoot” for a promo (trailer) for the movie. I couldn’t make it, and I’ve never heard a word from them since. Figures….
Too bad, because I’ve always felt that if “bad” were done in a “good” way, it could be amazing… but it’s hard to achieve a “bad” that’s “good”, unless your name is Christopher Lambert, in which case everything you touch turns to immortal gold.
Oh well. Another potential project down the tubes.
