I’m one beer into “the eve”, so I better make this quick before it turns into a drunken rant…. (EDIT: Two beers later…too late.)
As another year flashes by like a pan in the sauce, I like to sometimes reflect on things that happened in the previous year. What projects evolved and were completed? What doings were done that advanced the goal of full-time filmmaking?
Well, at the beginning of 2007, Cinema Spatula released “French Onion“, which swept the awards categories in the Indietalk Script to Screen Challenge, winning best screenplay, grand prize, best comedy, and “Most Original” (based on a 90% adherence to the script).
After that, The Poke Show was formed between Dennis Logan and Nicklaus Louis, releasing several sketches, garnering thousands of views from each party before going on hiatus in November.
Dennis flew to Los Angeles as part of a Ford-sponsored “blogger experiment“, visiting a taping of the Spielberg/Burnett production “On The Lot”, meeting Carrie Fischer, Gary Ross and Penny Marshall and partying like an upper-crust delicacy.
September was host to Dennis’ second year working the Toronto International Film Festival where he saw many films, greeted many celebrities (David Schwimmer, Tommy Lee Jones and Paul Haggis to name a few) and drank many-a-beer.
Throughout the year also marked the inception of “Saveslot“, a video-game-themed sketch series featuring Bill Stepec and Dennis Logan from Supergun. Though yet to be officially “launched”, some saveslot episodes currently lurk online for those adept at things like Google, or other search engines (read: I’m not linking it, you lazy bastard)…
Every other waking moment this year was spent developing three feature scripts- one about telemarketing, one about ushering, and one about ninjas. By this time next year, I fully expect to have 2 of those scripts ready to film by this time next year…
But for now, good BYE 2007 and good RIDDANCE! On with the new! And with that, I shall conclude and begin this eve’s drinkfest 2008.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
