Indiana Jones 4 is about Aliens

So first of all, my day has been MADE. The Indiana Jones trailer is ONLINE!!!

To my utter delight, it looks like it is going to be the best movie EVER. Spielberg, Lucas and Ford together again at last, and it’s still the glory days, my friends. Indeed, I couldn’t be more thrilled- this is the movie I’ve been waiting for my ENTIRE life, ever since I watched the trilogy on VHS as a kid at my Godfather’s (not mafia, though) place.

So I’m reading this article one night with an interview between Spielberg, Lucas and Harrison, and they’re talking about McGuffins. Not McLovin’s, McGuffins. And Lucas is all like, “Ooh Guys, I have the BEST Macguffin for Indy4!”, so Harrison is like “I love McMuffins” and Lucas tells him the McGuffin. Then Ford’s like “No way. Lucas, are you kidding? YOU can’t do THAT McMuffin”…. wait, why don’t I just google the text from the interview, this is stupid..

Aha!

“I discovered a McMuffin…I told the guys about it and they were a little dubious about it, but it’s the best one we’ve ever found… Unfortunately, it was a little too ‘connected’ for the others. They were afraid of what the critics would think. They said, “Can’t we do it with a different McMuffin? Can’t we do this?” and I said “No”. So we pottered around with that for a couple of years. And then Harrison really wanted to do it and Steve said, “Okay”. I said, “We’ll have to go back to that original MacMuffin and take out the offending parts of it and we’ll still use that area of the supernatural do deal with it.”

-George Lucas

There. So then I started thinking “What could Indy4 be about?”. We know it’s called the Crystal Skull, and that it was partly filmed in jungle locations and set in the 50’s. Then it hit me.

Fucking Roswell, New Mexico. Alien spaceship allegedly crashes in the desert. Crystal Skull could be an alien’s skull. Ok- so let’s say Indy finds a crystal skull in South America, finding out Aliens visited the planet during early human civilization or something. Indy could have to go to Area 51 at some point in the movie… it made sense.

But it all came back to the McGuffin. What possible McGuffin could LUCAS not do because it was “too connected”. Well- need I say Star Wars for George, and ET and Close Encounters for Steven? Well, I just did.

And LO AND BEHOLD, watching the trailer, I stumbled upon this:

Indy 4 = Aliens A crate from or to Roswell, New Mexico. Right in the trailer… which makes me suspicious- are Spielberg and Lucas throwing a wrench out there? Is it a misdirection to create blog buzz about Indy’s new sidekick Chewbacca LaBoef? Dr. Jones, Jedi?

Perhaps, but reading the initial quote about the McGuffin, I really do think that Indy 4 will be about aliens. And since it took this long for Lucas, Spielberg and Ford to get the RIGHT script, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that if Indiana Jones lives up to itself, it will make the Quadrilogy the BEST Quadrilogy EVER. Of course, Star Wars is the best SEXTILITY, but you can’t say THAT, because it sounds like dirty innuendo. The Star Wars Sextility. Hmmm… can lightsabers penetrate vasoline force shields?

No. I think the aliens will be downplayed, with a possible pay-off at the end, and it’s just going to be a kick-ass, whip-slinging Indy-Fest 3000. I can’t wait.
Check out this article I found as well, surmising the same thing.
