During the later years of elementary school, I would get home after school, grab some cookies and plunk down in front of the television, watching cartoons on YTV in a block called “the Zone”.
In between shows, the host, PJ Phil would banter and talk about things with a large mechanical wad of purple gum with moving teeth on a TV screen called SNIT:

Well, strangely enough, I’m in a bar last night downtown (the Wheat Sheaf) with some co-workers, and started chatting with a nice fellow named Atul Rao… and about 10 minutes later found out that HE was the man behind SNIT! He’s an animator by trade, but he was the voice and puppeteer for Snit… which is crazy, because pretty much anyone growing up in the 1990’s in Canada knew who SNIT was.
After waxing nostalgic for a bit, I was asking him about his current projects, and it turns out Atul has actually been working on a cartoon for non other than Marvel… called “Wolverine and the X-Men”. Thankfully, he had a demo disc on him, so I was able to watch the trailer for the new series (which I’m afraid I can’t put online, so you’ll have to take my word for it until it’s actually released), but it looks amazing… basically a cross between the old animated X-men show and the new movie franchise… the plot is pretty much that Xavier goes into a coma (might this be a direct continuation from X3???) and the X-men split up… the story seems to focus on Wolverine’s solo adventures as an Ex-X-Man, but the trailer had pretty much every character from the movies… Cyclops, Beast, Rouge, Pyro, etc, etc… even Senator Kelly.
I don’t know about you, but I LOVED the X-men cartoons, so this is quite cool indeed… and on top of that, it’s helmed by the guy who was SNIT- our lovable purple gum TV companion- when I was a young lad watching my guilty pleasure, Sailor Moon. So that made my night yesterday- finally put a face to the creator of a childhood memory and found out some cool dirt on a new animated show that looks like it’s going to rock!
And with that, I’m going to watch the Indiana Jones trilogy.
