Did an interesting thing today- formatted the hard drive for the first time in almost 3 years. Thankfully, I backed most things up, but it’s going to be the little things bugging me- I had to dig around and find my Final Draft CD and go through installation/registration all over again, and all my web bookmarks are gone, which means I’m going to have to spend some time finding all my usual sites again… And there were some programs I didn’t even bother backing up which I don’t even know about yet- only time will tell.
But on the bright side, my computer is running about 500% faster with all the crap gone, and I have a fresh chance at creating actual “organization” with my files. It’s so freaking nice to be able to double click a program and NOT have to wait 2 minutes before it opens.
Anyone with an aging, slow computer who is considering formatting your hard drive…. do it. It’s wonderful. It’s like moving into a new house and finding out that instead of stairs, there’s a wormhole portal you can walk through, leading to the fridge, the bathroom, the bed, the front door and the living room. And also, there’s a sub-space dimension with rivers of beer and patio laterns.
What a nice place…
