Lost last night - Ben episode!!!

Tags: , , , , ,

Last night’s latest episode of LOST was absolutely without doubt the best episode of the show EVER to air.

It was Ben-centric, it was action-PACKED, introduced more sci-fi elements to the show and was filled with strong emotion and mystery…. as usual, every bit of new information given gave birth to another storyline with questions and mysteries for later. In one word, the show is BRILLIANT.

For those who did watch the episode, here’s the central questions:

  • Is Ben some kind of secret-agent Time Cop that teleports around the globe protecting the island by killing potential invaders before they set out?
  • Is the island IN the future, allowing Ben to “know” everything about everyone because he knows their eventual outcome in the past?
  • Why can’t Locke die? What IS his fate? Will he become Ben’s agent-in-training, or is his destiny as a sacrifice later on? On that note- IS Ben a good guy? It appears that the more we learn about Ben, the more human he becomes- and the more “good” his character gets. All of his manipulating was at first malicious. but now seems like an uber-smart James Bond trying to talk the villains out of bad things. But is this misdirection. or will he turn out to be the hero of the show?
  • The Monster unleashed! Electro-magnetic cloud with an intelligence system? What’s the connections to the hieroglyphs? How does Ben tell it to attack the soldiers?
  • “He changed the rules”? What are the rules?
  • Whitmore owns the island and Ben stole it? Whitmore is Dharma then? What game is he playing with Ben and who made the rules?

It was amazing. Ben is my favorite character on the show, and finally there was an episode devoted to him. Also, we got to see the Monster in action, and the core mysteries of the show deepened while being revealed. What an amazing show.

What happened to the Environinjas?

Everyday there are an infinite number of changes, all fluidly executed across the universe in a perfect alignment with the laws of existence. Stars become dust, dust becomes stars, and star dust become magical intergalactic space walruses which only can only eat Tom Cruise to survive. You get the point- change is fluid and constant. Flux, they call it. Who calls it that? Tom Cruise.

Well, today, another change in my own focus occurred, though I don’t think it concerns Tom Cruise at all, really. I’ve been spending most of my time these days between shooting sketches for “Saveslot”, editing said sketches, and writing a short film called “The Mushroom Man”.

Soon (once episode 6 is shot) Saveslot will complete it’s first “web-season” (and then launch) and I’ll be able to focus more on my writing. But aside from my Mushroom script, there are three feature film scripts I’ve been juggling between burners… and the time has come to pick one to forge ahead to final draft mode.

The first, Environinjas, has become my primary focus. I’ve already written a good deal of it, as well as a near complete detailed outline, so it will be the easiest to finish penning. Unfortunately, it’s the most difficult to shoot, due to the amount of stunts and special effects. The whole reason I put a hiatus on it was because I realized that my “no-budget” philosophy couldn’t work… then, after reading a post from Clive on Indietalk about how the DV filmmaking scene is killing the idea of old-school filmmakers raising budgets, and my discovery of many Canadian feature-film funding programs, I’ve decided to re-invigorate my ninja-script and make it #1 priority. Also, the few people who I’ve told about it have been constantly pestering me about it, so I figure there’s GOT to be an audience out there. Who doesn’t love ninjas?

The second, called Maximum Usher, is next on the slate. Think of Clerks meets Die Hard- still some stunts, but easier to shoot because of the central location (a theater) and matching cheap polyester tuxedos (cheaper in bulk?). I was hoping this one would be my feature debut (and still may be), but I want to focus on Environinjas, mainly because we’re destroying our planet and need ninjas to kick our collective asses before any Ushers can entertain us with their antics.

The third, about telemarketing, is the most rough-shod of them all. Loose outlines and fuzzy plots dance in and out of my head in various extremes. I think once I leave my job (I work in a telemarketing admin office) then I’ll be able to piece together where that script is going to go. Every time write something for it, I think of work, and… that’s no good.

And of course, I’ve been talking a lot with Geoff Meech lately, who’s interested in doing a documentary on 2012 and the mysteries of mankind that surround it. Pretty esoteric, but interesting!

So rest assured that despite any signs of inactivity, the cauldron is indeed brewing strong! And with that, I’m going to bed again, for like, the 1 ba-zillionth time in my life.

Battlestar Season 4!

Tags: , ,

Last night, the first episode in the amazing Battlestar Galactica’s final season aired and it was, as usual, amazing.

I’m not going to spoil too much, but I think I’ve got a theory on where they’re going. If you haven’t seen it, don’t read on though!

First of all, I don’t think Stackbuck is the final Cylon. They seem to lead you down that path in hints, like having her come back from the “dead” and pulling a gun on the president at the end. It COULD make sense, but I think it’s too obvious.

It can’t be Adama or Apollo because they’d have to BOTH be cylons and there’s only one left to reveal. That leaves President Roslyn and Gaius Baltar in the main character set.

Now what was interesting in this last episode was the portrayal of Baltar as a Jesus Christ figure (healing a child and preaching to his followers, plus the “one true god” thing).

This leads to my theory- the human race is almost crushed by the Cylon, and even if they FIND Earth, they’ll still be followed and overrun. But when Thrace came back from Earth, she thought a few months were only a few hours. Therefore, how could the whole fleet survive the Cylons on Earth?

Simple- go back in time to an ancient pre-human Earth, before the existence of the Cylon! Then, Baltar being Jesus, Apollo, Starbuck, Adama, Chief (etc) being the “gods” of Greek Mythology, etc, etc, etc- the remainder of the 12 colonies form the foundation of all modern society’s cultural past, which is somehow misinterpreted through time… When they cite the show’s holy scripture in episodes, a frequent line is “This has happened before and will happen again”, or something to that tune. What if the twelve colonies and the story of Battlestar Galactica explained both the beginning and the end of our society, which existed in a time loop- from the Colonization of Earth and founding of what becomes today’s society, to the colonization of the other 12 planets to the invention of and betrayal by the Cylon???

Would be interesting… but at the same time, I’m suspect that the show creators might try and go for a diplomatic solution with the Cylon- simply because of the fact that some of the Battlestar crew (Boomer, Chief, Tigh, etc) are Cylons themselves, but “good” cylons, and finding a way for human and cylon to co-exist might be their moral point with the series… or maybe they Cylons are frakking murdering toasters  and will always try and snuff out humanity?

But who is the final cylon? Baltar or Roslyn?

If it’s Roslyn, it would explain the survival of Cancer, as well as why she is currently leading the fleet away from the path to Earth (according to Starbuck)… it would also be interesting if she turns out to be the “cylon leader”, because Adama is in love with her (she’s in his quarters…oooh…) and she’s the president of the colonies again. Baltar, I think, will turn out to be human, because it seems to be where they’re taking his current destiny as he seeks redemption for betraying his people… I wonder if they’ll make “The Passion of the Baltar” an episode?

All in all, we’ll have to wait and see how the next episode goes- and that’s the brilliance of Battlestar- they’ve got such complex characters and a tapestry of plot that it can go any direction. Just when you think you have it figured out it throws a wrench in. Brilliant show. Can’t wait for next week. Oh, and I also predict that Lee Adama will run for president.

Also, interestingly enough, if it does end up being a time travel solution, it could make for a possible sequel series, taking place in modern times, assuming that some of the population is interbred with Cylons, or the Cylons come back in time to disrupt the course of time.  If it stars Chuck Norris as a Cylon, I’m sold.
