Like my hair? The guys at Gold's Gym said it was AWSOME!Synopsis

A much abbreviated, bastardized version of King Lear, King Lear 2000 is a random smattering of scenes from the play, turned into a Pythonesque farce.

After Banishing Cordelia to France, King Lear is banished by his daughters Regan and Goneril, and wanders the wilderness looking for stuff to do. Meanwhile, the treacherous Edmund tricks his father into banishing his brother Edgar. Edgar disguises himself as a classic comicbook superhero to penetrate the kingdom and reclaim his throne.

Production Synopsis
By: Bill Stepec

This revered Supergun Cinema gem was a video presentation for English class. After the local acclaim of Hamlet, (and the fact that Geoff, Harmeet and Denis were in the same class) it was decided that an unofficial sequel would be their final project. After receiving an assignment, Denis ran home, cracked open a bottle of mysterious "Orange Liquor" and began penning the script on his Shakespeare encyclopedia. The script took excerpts from the Shakespearean play in order to make a comparative analysis on the lack of a female parental figure in the lives of the tragic heroes, and combined them with the drunken silliness of retro-pop culture references.

In short, a bizarre kind of comedy was born. This 30min slapstick Shakespeare adaptation follows the stories of King Lear (Denis Logan) and Edgar (Denis Logan) as they seek to dethrone the tyrant Edmund (Zafar Raja). Featuring such memorable lines like:

  • "Edmund was only two when your mother left! How would you know anyhow?" -Gloucester (Harmeet Bindra)
  • "Goneril is coming!" -Cast
  • "Why? Why, God, why? I am a man more sinned against, than the sinning!" -King Lear (Denis Logan)
  • "I'm dead!" -Osric (Mike Venner)

Trivia
  • Originally, Bill Stepec was cast as Edgar, and even filmed a whole scene in character, but due to a sudden visit to Grandma, the role had to be re-cast and the scene re-shot the next day with Denis in the dual lead.
  • The Batman mask worn in this movie cost a lot of money, and Denis' mom threw it out. She still owes Harmeet's dad $70, but neither parent knows it!
  • Ryan Gilhooly received 3 bloody noses due to Ben Davis smashing him into a break-away table.
  • Director Geoff Meech swore it would be the last Shakespeare film SGC was going to do.
  • There have been a total 6 break-away tables in Supergun cinema productions.
  • Bill showed up on the final shoot date to participate in the climactic battle, but his choreographed opponent ignored him, so he spent the entire battle running around with a crowbar, attacking invisible aliens.
  • This film featured the first use of SGC Wake-Up Juice. Check back soon for the recipe.
